About Aleksey Potapchuk
Artist statement:
All my paintings start with a single question: How would it look if the subject that captured my imagination were painted?
I get inspired and act on it almost immediately, driven by curiosity. Once I'm done, in most cases, I'm surprised by the end result - even though my painting style is not based on randomness.
While I have a clear idea in mind, I rarely name my paintings because the viewer is a part of the work, and I don't want to rob them of their imagination by providing context in written words.
Exhibitions:
- Landscape painting in Meshek Ofir Art Gallery for 3 months
- A painting hosted in Art Museum of Israel (Tel-Aviv)
Biography:

Aleksey Potapchuk was born in Ukraine and raised in Israel.
He specializes in figurative painting across a variety of mediums.
Aleksey expresses his creative ideas through photorealism, impressionism, children’s book illustration, surrealism, and occasionally the written word.
"I have always been the creative type, writing music and poetry even before I understood why I did it. Discovering art closed the circuit—now I finally see how my engineer’s mind connects with my creativity to express ideas that were previously inaccessible to me."
His main inspirations include the works of Caravaggio, Rembrandt, H.R. Giger, Zdzisław Beksiński, Syd Mead, Bosch, James Gurney, Bob Ross, Bill Alexander, and Vladimir Volegov, combined with literary influences from sci-fi and fantasy authors such as Brandon Sanderson, Adrian Tchaikovsky, Ursula K. Le Guin, Jules Verne, and Sergei Lukyanenko.
He says: "Art is a communication tool. When you see my images, this is me trying to connect with you—to show you where we are alike and where we differ."
Most of his works can be found in online book stores with stand-alone creations available for review on the main site DustyDtains.com.
