About Aleksey Potapchuk

Artist statement:

My goal is to create paintings that compell the viewer to look at my paintings at least twice.
To accomplish this, I create images with a meaning that can be completed by the viewer. As no one can ever know what's in my head, I give the same respect to the person that looks at my creations by leaving space for imagination and unique experiences to play a role while observing my art.

My art is designed to start conversations while being a good aesthetical decoration of your living space.

I use acrylics because they allow working from light to dark, dark to light and everything in between with immediate access to any style that can make the painting an accurate representation of my vision.

Biography:

Aleksey Potapchuk was born in Ukraine and raised in Israel.

He specializes in Acrylics with limited use of digital art for book illustrations.

Aleksey expresses his creative ideas in a variety of styles - photorealism, impressionism, children book  illustration, surrealism and written word.

"I always was the creative type, writing music and poetry even before I could understand why I do it in the first place. Finding Art has closed the circuit and now, I finally see how my mind of an engineer can connect to my creativity to express ideas inaccessible to me before."

His main inspirations are in the art of Francisco de Goya, Rembrandt, HR Giger, Zdzislav Beksinski, Syd Mead, Bosch, mixed with literary authors in the sci-fi and fantasy genres.

His style has developed into storytelling through imagery and his books allow the viewers to be emerged in the story that links collections of images together. His images for the books are created with the intent to be displayed together in thematically linked art shows.

He Says - "Art is a communication tool, so is written word. Opening the main idea to the viewer imagination with those two mediums, leaves a lot to interpretation while making sure that my own idea has been delivered as intended."

Most of his works can be found in online book stores with stand-alone creations available for review on the main site DustyDtains.com.
